Between September 15 and December 15, 2021, works by Coşkun Sami, Fatih Dülger, Farzin Rahneshin and Funda Alkan come together at the exhibition “The Cycle of Time” thanks to the joint efforts of Art50.net and Swissôtel The Bosphorus, İstanbul.
Time is a whole consisting of an infinite number of ‘nows’. And yet we tend to perceive it in linear development based on the notions of past, present and future.
Traces of the past and dreams of the future unite in the present rather effortlessly; this is due to the fact that time is actually cyclical. Life itself is an endless cycle of existence, extinction and reincarnation. Nature’s seasons follow each other in a continuous cycle. Although the epochs change, civilizations’ birth, growth and collapse stories are way too similar. Our aesthetic perception craves the excitement of the actual and the new, and yet it cannot give up on the nostalgic elements and their familiarity altogether.
The exhibition “The Cycle of Time” features artists whose work points to the cyclicity of existence. Using architectural and historical references, Coşkun Sami creates anonymous spaces that cannot be associated with any particular period. In his abstract compositions, Farzin Rahneshin searches for the image of the absence; presence cannot exist without it, after all. In his authentic landscapes based on the idea of void, Fatih Dülger highlights nature’s seasonal cycles of birth and extinction. Finally, Funda Alkan’s works in an authentic sewing technique become the timeless metaphors of the beauty standards imposed on female body.
You may visit the exhibition on any day of the week until December 15, 2021, at the lobby and reception halls of Swissôtel The Bosphorus.
