Every year the Armory Week brings the latest developments in modern and contemporary art to New York City. The art week which takes its name from the Armory Show is ready to return with its 2018 edition. Lasting not one but for two weeks this year, the Armory Week is made of multiple New York events and fairs which come one after another. Let’s have a look at the 2018 Armory Week, and explore what-where-and-whens of the best New York fairs and shows together.
ADAA Art Show
February 27–March 4
The ADAA Art Show gives direction to American Contemporary Art every year. Now in its 30th year, the show will take place in the Park Avenue Armory in New York. Featuring 72 dealers, the ADAA Art Show will present and showcase the best examples of modern and contemporary art from America and beyond. This year, many of the 72 exhibitors at the fair gave over their booths to presentations of single artists, among them are Peter Saul at Michael Werner, Harmony Hammond at Alexanger Grey and Thomas Chimes at the Lock Gallery.
The Armory Show
March 8–11
In its 24th year, the Armory Show not only gives its name to the Armory Week but also presents the best artworks of the 20th and 21th century. This year the fair will feature presentations from 200 international galleries on Piers 92 and 94 and will include a “Focus” section. Under the direction of Minneapolis Institute of Art curator Gabriel Ritter, the Focus section will explore technology and its relationship to arts.
NADA

This year, NADA has moved its location south, to the ground floor of Skylight Clarkson Square in West SoHo. Featuring 100 exhibitors from 17 countries in its new 60.000 sq metres venue, NADA will host new galleries from Milan, New York and Michigan. In 2018, it also offers a fund for Bronx Museum of the Arts curators to acquire a work from the fair for the institution’s permanent collection.
Volta NY

Right at the next door to the Armory Show, in Pier 90, Volta NY will host 85 international contemporary galleries from all around the world. Artist Mickalene Thomas and collector and consultant Racquel Chevremont are co-organizing the fair’s “Curated” section this year. Titled “The Aesthetics of Matter,” this section features a project of eight artists relying on collaged material in their work.
