Born in 1982 in Ankara, Gözde Başkent received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting from Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in 2007. She completed her Master’s degree at her alma mater with thesis researching the interactions between painting and illustration in contemporary art scene. She spent a term in Accademia di Belle Arti Bologna during her MA studies between 2008 and 2009.
In her works she explores the distance between human and nature. While taking a closer look at the human-nature relationship and humans from the viewpoint of the unkown, uncharted universe; she touches upon the notions of the life-death cycle and transience
