Now in its seventh year, it is aimed at strengthening and increasing access to Cape Town city\u2019s contemporary art sector.<\/p>\n<p>What began in 2012 as a small project driven by the simple idea of highlighting local contemporary art the project has grown into an important annual festival, shining a spotlight on wider Cape Town contemporary arts practitioners. The ART WEEK project pulls together galleries, public institutions, curators and artists for one week of open access events and activations.<\/p>\n<p>With Investec Cape Town Art Fair acting as the anchor event for the ART WEEK CAPE TOWN programme, local practitioners are afforded the opportunity to take advantage of the large national and international audiences that the Investec Cape Town Art Fair attracts to the city.<\/p>\n<h4><strong>Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF)<\/strong><\/h4>\n<p>Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF) is pleased to announce the participating galleries in its seventh edition, taking place from the 15th to the 17th February 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. These galleries are well-established, representing exciting, established and emerging artists with a presence in museums, biennials, and important private collections around the world. Photo: Margot Montigny<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong>Tomorrows\/Today<\/strong>, the section of the Fair which aims to place a spotlight on emerging and under-represented artists, will be curated by Fair Curator Tumelo Mosaka. The artists presented in Tomorrows\/Today are new to the market, and are positioned to be tomorrow\u2019s prominent names in contemporary art. The presentations in the section have continued to be thought-provoking and experimental since its inception at the 2016 edition of the Fair. The section\u2019s continuation reiterates the Fair\u2019s support of artists who may otherwise be overlooked by the art market.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8995\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8995\" style=\"width: 800px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-8995\" src=\"https:\/\/art50.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/tomorrows-1024x436-1024x436.jpg\" alt=\"Art Twenty One - Medina Dugger\" width=\"800\" height=\"341\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8995\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Art Twenty One &#8211; Medina Dugger<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The second iteration of the\u00a0<strong>SOLO section<\/strong>, will explore the effects of the digital world on artistic production and our lived realities. Each edition of SOLO aims to present a more in-depth insight into the artistic practices of a varied selection of artists than is commonly found in the commercially-driven, art fair setting. It is open to those working on and beyond the African continent and as the title implies, the ongoing theme is one of transformation, and experimentation showcasing unorthodox art forms addressing current social and political issues.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe art scene is not short of rising stars,\u201d says Mosaka. \u201cThe point is how to provide visibility.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor Investec Cape Town Art Fair visitors \u2013 especially those who intend to invest in the future \u2013 it is important that the art fair sets the bar while ushering in a new crop of artists. The prize will include a solo exhibition at the museum, as well as a cash prize of R50 000.<\/p>\n<p>The winner of the prize will be selected by a jury* from the ten solo presentations in the Tomorrows\/ Today section. With almost 100 galleries, over 15,000 visitors and 2,815 invited guests, it offers a platform for collectors, galleries, curators, artists, and art journalists from around the globe to create connections at the forefront of contemporary art.
