ART WEEK CAPE TOWN needs no introduction to local denizens of the art world. Now in its seventh year, it is aimed at strengthening and increasing access to Cape Town city\u2019s contemporary art sector.<\/p>\n

What began in 2012 as a small project driven by the simple idea of highlighting local contemporary art the project has grown into an important annual festival, shining a spotlight on wider Cape Town contemporary arts practitioners. The ART WEEK project pulls together galleries, public institutions, curators and artists for one week of open access events and activations.<\/p>\n

With Investec Cape Town Art Fair acting as the anchor event for the ART WEEK CAPE TOWN programme, local practitioners are afforded the opportunity to take advantage of the large national and international audiences that the Investec Cape Town Art Fair attracts to the city.<\/p>\n

Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF)<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Investec Cape Town Art Fair (ICTAF) is pleased to announce the participating galleries in its seventh edition, taking place from the 15th to the 17th February 2019 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre. ICTAF is set once again to offer a unique cross-section of the art market, representing the forefront of contemporary art globally.<\/p>\n

An increasingly large contingent within Investec Cape Town Art Fair is made up of prominent galleries from around the globe. These galleries are well-established, representing exciting, established and emerging artists with a presence in museums, biennials, and important private collections around the world. Tomorrows\/Today<\/strong>, the section of the Fair which aims to place a spotlight on emerging and under-represented artists, will be curated by Fair Curator Tumelo Mosaka. The artists presented in Tomorrows\/Today are new to the market, and are positioned to be tomorrow\u2019s prominent names in contemporary art. The presentations in the section have continued to be thought-provoking and experimental since its inception at the 2016 edition of the Fair. The section\u2019s continuation reiterates the Fair\u2019s support of artists who may otherwise be overlooked by the art market.<\/p>\n

Art Twenty One – Medina Dugger<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The second iteration of the\u00a0SOLO section<\/strong>, will explore the effects of the digital world on artistic production and our lived realities. Each edition of SOLO aims to present a more in-depth insight into the artistic practices of a varied selection of artists than is commonly found in the commercially-driven, art fair setting. The selected artists have varying aesthetics and contexts, are situated in different stages of their careers, and have unique perspectives on each edition\u2019s thematic focus.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0Unframed section<\/strong>\u00a0of Investec Cape Town Art Fair 2019 presents large-scale sculpture, installation, performance, and new media artworks that offer the opportunity for more ambitious, more conceptual aspects of artists\u2019 practice to fairgoers. The section includes works that are large in scale, site-specific, and interactive, defying the limitations of the traditional fair booth and encouraging fairgoers to fully engage with the work.<\/p>\n

SMAC Gallery – Ed Young, Your Mom Balloon<\/figcaption><\/figure>For the 2019 iteration, Unframed includes a performative video installation by Ed Young (South Africa) presented by SMAC, a video room showing works by Cl\u00e9ment Cogitore (France) and Borna Sammak (US) by A4 Arts Foundation, and a large-scale, sculptural installation by Asemahle Ntlonti (South Africa) by The Project Space.<\/p>\n

TOMORROW\/TODAY<\/strong><\/h4>\n

Returning to the seventh edition of Investec Cape Town Art Fair, which takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) from 15 to 17 February 2019, TOMORROWS\/TODAY is a cross-section of the most exciting, emerging and less known artists from Africa and around the world chosen by Investec Cape Town Art Fair curator Tumelo Mosaka as being thought-provoking voices.<\/p>\n

According to Mosaka the aim of TOMORROWS\/TODAY is to shine a light on emerging and under-represented artists, set to be tomorrow\u2019s leading names. It is open to those working on and beyond the African continent and as the title implies, the ongoing theme is one of transformation, and experimentation showcasing unorthodox art forms addressing current social and political issues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe art scene is not short of rising stars,\u201d says Mosaka. \u201cThe point is how to provide visibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cFor Investec Cape Town Art Fair visitors \u2013 especially those who intend to invest in the future \u2013 it is important that the art fair sets the bar while ushering in a new crop of artists. For this reason, the fair has established this major platform.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIn essence, the thought-provoking TOMORROWS\/TODAY section reiterates the Fair\u2019s support of artists who have developed their talents outside the structures of the art market,\u201d says Mosaka.<\/p>\n

The Tomorrows\/Today Prize<\/strong><\/h4>\n

The Tomorrows\/Today Prize is supported by Fondazione Fiera Milano and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa (Zeitz MOCAA) and will be awarded to the most exciting artist presentation within the section. The prize will include a solo exhibition at the museum, as well as a cash prize of R50 000.<\/p>\n

The winner of the prize will be selected by a jury* from the ten solo presentations in the Tomorrows\/ Today section. The jury, led by Mosaka includes Renaud Proch, Director Independent Curators International of New York City, Brooke Minto, Director of Institutional Advancement at Zeitz MOCAA and associate professor at Michaelis School of Fine Art, Berni Searle.<\/p>\n

The prize ushers in new possibilities for both the artist and collectors observing the development of singular careers in the contemporary art world.<\/p>\n
