Deniz currently lives and works in Istanbul.
In her series titled “Woman Like a Man” based on old photographs and found objects, Deniz ironically approaches the idea of being a manly woman and adds femininity to men’s photographs, while the badly applied red lipstick underlines the inappropriateness of this discourse.
The objects in the “Wounds” series, on the other hand, are composed of old doll parts. Their amorphous appearance symbolizes the internal wounds we receive starting from the day we are born. The toys carrying bandages represent our closest friends wrapping our wounds, while the shoes represent the steps we take carrying these wounds along with us.
In the series titled “Being Forty” where the artist uses playing cards, each card refers to the stages in a woman’s life.
